“Universe of discourse is a fancy way of saying ‘that which we are speaking about’. When speaking about written text, the common term would be ‘context’; however, universe of discourse is more appropriate for spoken language, as it will include not only the theme of the conversation but also the experience of both the speaker and the listener, as well as the immediate environment in which the conversation is taking place."

Mavra Kundala
Mavra entered Mr Pointer's life just three weeks after the death of his life-long companion and housekeeper, Mrs Peal. Mrs Peal had served Terrance Pointer his breakfasts and lunches and dinners for over thirty years, one could say a third of a century, so naturally her unexpected death was a loss that Mr Pointer could not expect to recover from easily. He yet thought about Mrs Peal every day, and sometimes felt guilty because he had not devoted such thought to his wife after she passed on.​
